The Regal theatre in Stowmarket, an art deco theatre screening the latest films and hosting live events, has recently re-opened its doors to the public following a £3.6 million expansion and refurbishment project. Emphasis was placed on restoring and preserving many of the original features of the existing building built back in 1936.
VDC played a key part in the refurbishment project by supplying 3km of Van Damme Blue Series 2x6mm speaker cable, 2km of Van Damme Starquad in various colours and a further 2km of Van Damme Blue Series 2x2.5mm speaker. The cable was chosen for its rich pedigree, extreme flexibility and outstanding reputation – the same integrator worked on projects at the Dominion, Lyric and Palladium theatres and used Van Damme cabling throughout. The cable was provided from stock in London and dispatched within a couple days of the order being placed.
The Regal is a focal point of the town's leisure activities with annual admissions rising from 10,000 to 70,000 in the last 10 years. The multi-million pound revamp included three new auditoria with improved sound and lighting technology, new seating, a new foyer area, café and bar, and an upgrade to the adjacent car park.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the restoration work, the newly renovated venue was opened at the end of May 2021, earlier than expected.
