The Grinning Dog Record project was the brainchild of Nick and Grace Capaldi. Nick, a UK singer/songwriter, has been in the music industry since he was 14. Having to travel miles to record in a high-end studio was time-consuming, tiring and expensive so, for many years, he has dreamt of owning a recording studio where he could record his own music and help others record theirs.
Living in Dorset, he wanted to build this somewhere local, so with his wife Grace and her sister, Amy, the dream has now become a reality.
Echotown Studio is a purpose built, all-inclusive and accessible, analogue and digital studio on the outskirts of Dorchester. It houses a variety of equipment, including a 32 Channel SSL 6000E Desk, three tape machines – one being a Studer J37, ATC Monitors and a variety of rare and vintage microphones, amps and guitars.
Nick Capaldi commented:
“Because of the amount of kit in the studio, the cabling install for the studio is incredibly complex and requires trusted professionals to make them. Whilst recording at Abbey Road, I noticed Van Damme provided all the cabling. After feedback from both our tech and SSL experts, Gwyn Mathias and George Gilbert, we were confident that Van Damme was the right choice for Echotown and since then we have been impressed with the service from and quality of the brand.”
The cables involved in the installation included various classic DL 96 (Multi Pin) to XLR assemblies and a variety of 32 and 24 pair Van Damme Blue Series Studio cables.
