NTU’s new London campus leans on Van Damme cabling to support its flexible, multi-use AV infrastructure - spanning music, broadcast, content and eSports under one roof.

When Nottingham Trent University opened its new London campus, the goal was to give students access to real-world, working environments. That meant building an AV infrastructure capable of supporting everything from live music and content creation to eSports and broadcasting.

Luc Saint Martin, Technical Manager for the site, was responsible for making it all work. “We run a mix of courses - music performance, production, broadcast, digital content. We needed to send and receive a wide range of signals across the building,” Luc explains. “Sometimes point-to-point, sometimes networked. Van Damme gave us the flexibility we needed to make that possible.”

Van Damme cables are now integrated throughout the building, connecting live rooms, recording studios, performance spaces, control rooms and post-production suites.  This isn’t a new relationship: Nottingham Trent’s main campus in Nottingham has relied on Van Damme cables for years across its music and media departments. But this new London installation provided a clean slate - a purpose-built site for modern creative learning.

“It’s been a chance to rethink everything,” says Luc. “We’re dealing with students who are broadcasting live shows one day, producing music the next, and developing gaming content after that. We needed an AV backbone that can just... keep up.”

The cabling infrastructure includes key Van Damme products such as the Purple Patch D25 system (2 x 48 bantam to 12 x D25), Tour Grade Classic XKE microphone and instrument cables, and Blue Series Studio Grade pre-jacketed multicore for multichannel audio routing. For high-performance video, the installation relies on UHD Vision RG6 and RG11 cabling; all part of a wider mix of Van Damme solutions chosen to keep up with the pace and variety of NTU London’s creative output.

The University’s need for consistency has extended beyond the cable racks. The team also credits Van Damme for its direct, personal support during the installation phase. “We’re both in London, so when something didn’t fit or we needed a quick change, I could literally go over and speak to someone. That kind of hands-on support makes a big difference mid-project.”
