In 2020 Spotify, the market leader in music streaming, opened the doors of its new London HQ inside the Adelphi Building, just off the Strand in London’s West End. The space is much more than an office, featuring production studios, listening rooms and performance spaces, specifically dedicated to artists, podcasters and creators.
Providing an inspiring home, supporting the diverse requirements of both technical and creative teams, the location also houses Spotify’s research and development team in the UK, marking the giant’s first major tech centre outside of the US and Sweden.
A year later, Spotify expanded considerably because of the rise in smart speaker ownership and the boom in the popularity of podcasts during the pandemic. This resulted in the need for more production studios and green rooms specifically dedicated to podcasts for Spotify’s dedicated artists.
VDC supplied over 50 handmade taped looms from 5m to 100m, that were meticulously put together and labelled using the specific plans laid down by the integrator for ease of use and installation.
Van Damme RG6 Extended Distance HD-SDI, Van Damme Tourcat CAT6A S/FTP cable, Van Damme Starquad Microphone Cable and Van Damme 75-Ohm Coax Cable were used in the build, as well as eight pair Blue cable, based on the brand’s reputation as the perfect studio install cable.
Taped looms provided a custom-made alternative to hybrid per jacketed cables. No other cable supplier can make the taped looms VDC makes, especially not in the one-week timeframe that was given. All looms are handmade by staff at VDC and quality assured and tested before they go out.
The new office is one of Spotify’s biggest R&D hubs globally and only 25 minutes away from the VDC HQ – making it possible for the cables to be delivery quickly and easily.
Today, Spotify is the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service with 365m users, including 165m subscribers, across 178 markets.
