Marella Explorer 2, an 1,814-passenger ship, is currently dry-docked in Cadiz, Spain where an eight-week refit and refurbishment is taking place. The ship is part of Marella Cruises, formerly Thomson Cruises, and completes the now six strong fleet.
After significant renovations including large-scale paint work, balcony upgrades, expansions of the veranda, three new venues and a royal suite, Marella Explorer 2 will go on to cruise the Mediterranean and Caribbean. The ship is scheduled for completion in late March, but will be launched to guests in April.
No stranger to large scale projects of this size, tedav were brought on board to take charge of all things Audio and Visual on the renovations.
Twenty of tedav’s team are already on site, transforming the entertainment areas on board and preparing the ship for her launch. Thirty more technicians, engineers and creatives are due to fly out to Spain to join the team over the coming weeks, to assist with the huge but exciting project.
Tedav were awarded the Marella Cruises contract in 2017, to provide the full entertainment installation. Once tedav were on board, it wasn’t long before VDC were enlisted to provide the cable. A wide range of Van Damme products were utilised, including Van Damme 2 pair Blue series, Van Damme LSZH speaker cable, Van Damme Digilog LSZH Ecoflex and Van Damme classic instrument cable to name a few.
Speaking about their relationship with VDC, tedav explained: “As experienced AV installers, we have used VDC and Van Damme cable in many applications and projects. From the custom looms, extensive cable range, the LSZH options and the simple fact that it’s great to work with, Van Damme really was the only option.”
Tedav continued: “We’re now firmly into the project and no problems have yet been encountered. There will be some testing and training before her maiden voyage, and an internal launch cruise at the end of March.”
Marella Explorer 2’s entertainment team, show cast, musicians and technical team are all busy getting ready for the ship’s launch and are eager get started on board the newest addition to the Marella fleet.
