The Ultimate World Tour is the nineteenth concert tour by Bryan Adams. The tour promotes his best-of compilation album Ultimate, which aims to condense his extensive back catalogue into one record. The album which features classics such as ‘Run to You’ and ‘Everything I Do (I Do It For You)’ also showcases two new tracks, ‘Ultimate Love’ and ‘Please Stay’. His signature sound of feel-good rock and roll is captured in the album and on the tour, which is now travelling the world visiting Australia, Europe, Canada, the United States and India.
Reynolds sound and Lighting Pvt. Ltd. took on the job of all things audio on the Bangalore leg of the tour. It was here that VDC were enlisted to help. Sohel Dantes, The Audio Chief & Head Systems Designer for Reynolds Sound and Lighting, and for the Bangalore leg of the Ultimate Tour, spoke with us about his experience working with VDC.
Reynolds Sound and Lighting had been searching for a solution to run their new D&B Audiotechnik GSL system in the most efficient way. They decided the DANTE AoIP protocol would be adopted as their in-house standard.
“We had already been using cables supplied by VDC with our DiGiCo systems, which is where the idea to shift over to multimode fibre stemmed from.”
Mr Dantes further explained: “As the systems became larger and more complex, network stability and reliability became a major concern; being limited by 100m CAT5e runs was something we could not restrict ourselves with”. The decision was therefore made to shift over to multimode fibre.
“Knowing VDC’s credibility and experience within this domain, it was a natural choice to run this concept by them. We considered other options, but soon realised VDC were the most flexible in meeting our requirements”.
HMA and OpticalCON cables and connectors with custom panels were supplied by VDC. “The custom panels enable us to convert DANTE via Cat5 to MMF for longer and more reliable runs; converting OpticalCON to HMA (expanded beam) connects ensures the entire network will remain rock solid”.
The panels were custom designed by Mr Dantes in close consultation with VDC. Mr Dantes divulged: “Taking customer specifications and turning them into a reality was quite a process, but once VDC were on-board, I was quite confident we made the right decision. Adam (Jafrabadi) at VDC and Jacob (Payyapilli) at Ansata took over the design. They understood the concept and were promptly able to provide designs to meet our demands. We did a bunch of tests before running it out on the Bryan Adams Tour, as network stability and timely ease of operation was essential. We went back and forth a number of times to ensure our concept would work in reality, which thankfully it did!”
Mr Dantes concludes: “My experience working with VDC was extremely pleasurable! From the onset, we received timely support, design and delivery, even though it was a tight squeeze. The quality and build of the end-product is a no-compromise solution and has far surpassed my expectations!”
The Ultimate World Tour concludes in Ostrava, Czech Republic at the end of November, before Adams is due to begin his Bryan Adams in Concert tour of Canada in the New Year.
