Elephant Studios the new multi media facility at South Bank University, London, has opened its doors to students after a multi million pound build which saw Bill Ward of Langdale Technical Consulting installing miles of Van Damme cable from VDC Trading.
The facility, which Director Justin Randell hopes will also function as an overflow facility for Soho’s post production community, consists of a main sound control room with Dolby 9.1 surround monitoring, a host of desirable outboard equipment and an SSL AWS console. There is also a comprehensive journalism area with an interview film set, a small live area, a sound stage/film/foley studio with ARI cameras and tie lines to a central server system, 9 Editing suites capable of working in 4k video and above, 2 of which are grading suites, one for Dolby, and a Cinema.
The cabling used includes Van Damme analogue blue series, video, HDMI, data and control cable, along with VDC supplied connector, patch-bay and studio hardware. Tie lines connect all the facilities together for future proofing as there are plans for further expansion.
Justine Randell explained: “We use Van Damme cabling as I have in my other projects. It is very good quality and importantly it is very well shielded which is important with so much tech around.”
