The list of requirements included Van Damme Black Series tour grade multicore and 400 Van Damme Classic microphone cables. VDC also supplied the patch panels.
“Every artist who played at Live 8 in Hyde Park used Van Damme cable,” says Britannia Row’s Brian Grant. “I’ve always liked the build quality of Van Damme. It’s one less hassle if the cable is reliable and in this case it performed really well.”
In the build-up to the event VDC also saved Sigma Audiovisual from a potentially difficult situation. The company was given the task of delivering a live audio and video feed to the VIP and artist enclosures, run by the Hard Rock Café. But when Sigma managing director Peter Barnard arrived at Hyde Park to set up the link he discovered that no cable had been ordered.
“We needed to run a live feed from the BBC Outside Broadcast truck to the VIP areas, which were over 600 meters away. The lack of cable was nearly a disaster but I got on the phone to VDC and within two hours they had delivered two 500m drums of twin pair audio cable and low loss video cable. We hooked up to the OB and were able to feed sound and pictures to 14 plasma screens.”
